The objective of this exercise was to understand the importance of having the subject focused. I like to shoot wide open with a shallow depth of field (DOF). For this exercise I selected a Nikon 50mm f1.2 lens. When shot wide open, this lens has very shallow DOF, so that the image might appear to be out of focus. One should be careful with this when used for shooting portraits. You may get the nose sharp but eyes out of focus. (more…)
