Cameras I use

I’m sort of a gadget geek. I do make purchases hastily and don’t always have real need to all the stuff I buy. Too often I have ordered  stuff that “I can not live without”, only to realize that, I have no real use or need for it, after I receive the package. But such is life – the curse of internet shopping.

Some people spend their money buying cars, some drink and smoke, some make children…   I buy stuff I like.

At the moment my camera gear list is somewhat as follows:

  • Nikon D700 camera body
  • Nikkor 50mm f1.2 Ais
  • Nikkor 50mm f1.8 Ais “pancake”
  • Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF-D
  • Nikkor 24mm f3.5 PC-E tilt & shift lens
  • Nikkor 85mm f1.4 AF-D
  • Kiron “Lester Dine” 105mm f2.5 macro lens
  • Nikkor 180mm f2.8 AF-D
  • Nikkor 14 – 24mm f2.8 zoom
  • Nikkor 24 – 85mm f2.8-4 zoom
  • Nikkor 70 – 300mm f4.5 – 5.6 AF-S VR II zoom
  • Sigma 120 – 300mm f2.8 telezoom
  • Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro
  • 2 SB-600 flash units
  • 1 SB-900 flash unit
  • SU-800 flash control unit
  • 2 tripods (Manfrotto & Feisol)
  • several bags, filters, batteries etc …

That was my Nikon stuff. But I do need a smaller camera to carry along always. So I have also

  • Panasonic GF-1 + 20mm f1.7

So, what separates an amateur from a professional. Amateur have more and expensive gear than the pro. To prove that true I may need to buy a Nikon D3x, 24 – 70mm f2.8 and 70 – 200mm f2.8 zooms. You see, as an amateur I do not need to justify my purchases with the profit I can make with them.
